The 5 Best Basketball Stats Apps on the Market (Full Reviews)
Tracking basketball statistics can help coaches in many ways.
Most importantly, it gives you hard data to back up your claims.
Instead of simply telling your team “we didn’t fight hard enough on the boards” after the game, you’ll be able to go to your team with real statistics that confirm your comments.
“They pulled down 38 rebounds and we were only able to get our hands on 26. We need to do a much better job of making contact with our opponents, boxing out, and then pursuing the ball.”
Fortunately, there are a number of basketball stats apps to help you with tracking this.
Applications that are designed to be easy to use and track all the major basketball stats categories (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, etc).
Let’s take a look at a few of them...
5 Best Basketball Stats Apps
Price: Free to download and use, but many in-app purchases
The “Easy Stats” app is one of the best looking applications on the market.
It has a clean, easy-to-use design that will allow even the least tech-savvy individuals (like myself) to figure out how to track basketball stats in only a couple of minutes.
Includes all the main categories (points, rebounds, assists, etc), and then after the game you’re able to share the box score via Email, Facebook, Twitter or a simple link.
To unlock this app’s full potential, here are the in-app purchases you may have to make:
Pro Upgrade - $7.99
Player Box Score - $1.49
Plus Minus Stat - $2.99
Player Minutes - $2.99
Season Totals Report - $4.49
Opponent Stat Line - $2.99
Team Total Stat Lines - $4.49
Facebook Live Scoring - $2.99
"I have been using this app for 3 years for my daughter’s AAU and High School teams. Very easy to use and the parents and coaches love getting the emailed stats after every game. The Season Stats feature is awesome! I had tried many others before using Easy Stats but this one worked best and was the easiest to use. I recommend using this app over other stat apps it is really easy to use.”

#2 - Breakthrough Stats
The Breakthrough Stats App from the guys at Breakthrough Basketball will allow you to track a whopping 65 basketball statistics. Including EFG%, PPP, plus/minus rating, etc.
Designed for easy use by parents, coaches, players, or fans, this basketball stats app will do all the heavy lifting in the background to give you all the advanced stats you need.
Easily export to PC or MAC after the game.
“Everything is right at your fingertips. 30 mins to set up with your team and player info and then your ready. The reports are easy to generate and a great way to show players how they contribute. I have two players who dominate the scoring for us, averaging about 75% of our points. The reports are a great way to show others how they contribute to our success. Rebounding, tips, taking a charge… it’s all right in front of you!”

The iScore Basketball App is available for both iPhone and iPad, and will give you a comprehensive overview of game and season data.
A few people have mentioned that it takes a while to understand this basketball stats app, but they’ve provided a full training section on their website where you can quickly learn everything you need to know.
Visually, I didn’t love the design…
But it does have every stat you need and it didn’t take me long to figure out how to use it after spending a few minutes on their website.
Also, the app is absolutely 100% free!
No hidden costs.
Real Customer Review:
“At a tournament this weekend we needed something to serve as a backup to untrained teenage scorekeepers. This app was set up in less than 5 minutes and does amazing things. It is intuitive to use. Corrections were a challenge to figure out mid-quarter, but this app does all we need and more than we can use. We tried to buy it, and it seems the app itself is actually free! If we want the website next season, it’s there for purchase, but the app itself was perfect for the tournament. Thanks, iScore!”

#4 - HoopMetrics
Price: Free trial, but a monthly / yearly membership
I love the design and feel of the HoopMetrics app, but it’s incredibly expensive compared to the other stats apps reviewed on this page.
One thing that stood out to me was their “lineup suggestions” feature.
After you’ve taken stats for a few games, the app will be able to tell you which lineups have been the most effective (determined by plus/minus).
This is a great way to figure out which players work best together on the court.
The paid subscriptions will give you access to:
- Back up your statistics
- Export your statistics
- Lineup Suggestions
- Court Charts
- 24/7 Support
“I had absolutely no experience with any basketball stats / scoring app until I saw HoopMetrics. I downloaded it because they offer a free trial period and I’m really glad I did. I figured there would be a pretty steep learning curve for something that records such in-depth statistics - nope, I was able to create team logs and start scoring games in minutes! HoopMetrics is incredibly intuitive - you will be able to handle all stat details without having to look at a big panel of buttons. Early on I had a basic question (user error really); I submitted an email and got a very prompt and friendly response that easily resolved the issue. Well done, HoopMetrics!”

#5 - HUDL Assist
Price: $1,600 per year (HS team, standard option)
Disclaimer: I personally haven’t used Huddle Assist, and didn’t have $1,600 spare to check it out, so I’ll be basing my review on research and feedback from other users. Since it was the most recommended ‘app’ on my latest Twitter poll, I didn’t want to leave it off the list.
HUDL is the premier service for coaches who want to dive deep into the analytics of their team.
By linking in-game footage to each stat, and giving coaches the ability to share specific clips with the players on your team, there’s nothing more advanced on the market.
But, it comes at a cost…
$1,600 is the standard option for a HS team to get 200 hours of video broken down.
There are many other pricing options (some more expensive, some less expensive), so make sure to check to see what would fit your team’s needs.
Here’s how their process works:
Step #1 - Upload your game on their platform.
Step #2 - They watch the game and record all basketball stats within 12 - 24 hours.
Step #3 - They send you all the reports + game breakdown available.
"There is no doubt we won two to three extra games because of film work with Hudl."

Which basketball stats app you choose will depend on two things:
(a) How detailed you want the statistics to be.
(b) How much you’re willing to pay.
If you’re coaching a youth basketball team and are happy with just recording the basics, I’d recommend downloading the “Easy Stats for Basketball” app.
Then you can simply ask a parent / assistant coach / injured player to punch in a few buttons on an iPhone or iPad and you’ll have all the data you need immediately after the game.
At the HS level and up, I recommend Huddle Assist if your team is lucky enough to have that amount of money available to spend.
Either way, there are a bunch of great options for basketball stats apps.
